embrace the path of Deejaying
In 1994, Doug was hired as an intern by Tedd Patterson, who was the A&R for Waako Records and previously head of promotions for emotive records. After Tedd’s departure, Doug took over promotions at Waako Records and ultimately running the independent record label from A&R to promotions to contracts and label management. Doug quickly learned all the facets of running a record label and navigating the record industry. He worked with such artists as Kings of Tomorrow (Sandy Rivera), Lenny Fontana, StoneBridge, Jeremias Santiago, Kenny Carpenter, Mood II Swing & Louie "Balo" Guzman to name a few.
In 1998, Doug became the promotions manager for the USA office of the German Power house, ZYX Music ‘till his departure in 2005 to work on the next step, music production and his own parties.
In 2007, he teamed up with a friend and formed the nudisco outfit, DRRTYHAZE. This new musical venture got them signed on such renowned labels like Gomma (Germany), TIRK (UK), and Nang amongst others. After a slew of remixes and singles, the release of a Drrtyhaze album on Nang records was the next logical step. Distributed world wide on CD and vinyl, the album is still praised to this day.
In 2016 Doug decided to go solo and express his true inner self with the more organic, soulful house, combined with afro latin rhythms. A sound he was deeply immersed into all his life in NYC as a DJ and a club goer at such parties as Shelter, Body & Soul and many more.
Doug's love for what he affectionately calls "That New York sound" was evident on his 2016 releases and remixes on MoBlack Records, Offering recordings (Boddhi Satva), Sole Channel (MR. V), United Music, Tambor Music (Stan Zeff), King Street Sounds, Plastik People, Global Diplomacy (N’Dinga Gaba) and many more.
With numerous top tens in the afrohouse sales chart, it led him to be nominated the # 9 afrohouse producer of 2016 by traxsource.com, the highly coveted online record shop.
2017 saw the start of Doug’s own record label Merecumbe Recordings, an outlet not just for his own music, but from current and upcoming producers. A label dedicated to the soul and sound of afro latin rhythms with releases & remixes already from renowned artists such as Mark Francis (Shelter Records), N’Dinga Gaba, Cee ElAssaad, FNX, Iñaky Garcia, Vanco, Jihad Muhammad, Stones & Bones, Jackie Queens, Jaidene Veda and many more.
