Today brought very unfortunate and saddening news was announced today from Cafe de Paris
"With a heavy heart, we can confirm that we will be shutting the doors of our beloved Cafe de Paris for good.
We wanted you all to know that we have not gone out without a fight. We tried everything but the devastating effect of COVID-19 in the end was too much. We did our best to support our staff, their livelihoods & respect everyone's health & safety but in the end, like so many other hospitality businesses, we have reached the end of the road.
We thank all of our amazing customers for their continued love and support!
Team CDP"
Cafe de Paris, at Coventry Street near Leicester Square in London's West End, opened in 1924 and became one of London's leading and most respected clubs in both the Theatre and the Music entertainment showcases.
During World War II the venue was bombed during a performance and at least 34 people tragically lost their lives. After Britain fought through the war the venue was able to open its doors once again in 1948 and in an instant was able to establish its fully respected status once again.
Cafe de Paris was acquired by Maxwell's Restaurants In the 21st Century and has regularly hosted a variety of nights and featured some of London's hottest DJs. Maxwell's Restaurants unfortunately fell into liquidation this month due to the pressures and restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite fighting its way through the Second World War and reopening with sheer strength, this iconic venue in London has finally had to close its doors after 96 years.
We wish to empathise with all who worked at Cafe de Paris, in all roles and positions, and also the loyal followers and what would have been the loyal followers of the future. The nightlife industry is Britain's 5th highest generator of revenue and we hope and pray for its survival.
