Matt L-S
Matt’s passion for house and garage music started in his teens, growing up listening to Kiss FM and other pirate radio stations in London. After purchasing some Technics 1210s Matt became an instant vinyl junkie buying up vinyl on a regular basis from record shops such as Liberty and Black Market Records in Soho mainly purchasing imports from producers such as Masters At Work and Kerri Chandler. He toned his mixing skills quickly and then started to produce mix tapes that he took to bars in and around Essex picking up some gigs in the process.
Matt had dreams of a residency dj spot in London and after some graft took up a residency at the Fink bar in Camden while also promoting some events there in the process. In early 2000, Matt played a set at Garage City warming up for his heroes Bobby & Steve, this was a big moment as Matt had always listened to Bobby & Steve’s show on Kiss FM and was a regular visitor to Garage City. It was in 2006 that Matt’s big break came when he was working at UK label Papa Records with his friend Oli Lazarus. Oli asked Matt to run “Messages” the Papa Records club night and build it with him being the resident DJ. The events took place at various venues around London, but it was at Salmon & Compass in Islington that things really took off with Matt bringing in close from Jamesey to be the other resident aswell as entertaining guest djs from abroad including Jihad Muhammad (NYC), Patrick Wilson (San Francisco) & Ralf Gum (Germany).
In 2008 Matt started Tribe Records with Dean Zepherin a record label and events company. Matt mainly took a back seat to handle the promotion side of the events but was also a resident at the events taking place at the Prince of Wales in Brixton. Tribe quickly got worldwide recognition as the team put on events in Paris at Djoon, ADE in Amsterdam, WMC in Miami, South Africa and New York.
In 2012, Matt wanted to start a fresh and joined forces with Jamesey to create Makin’ Moves a record label and events company with him and Jamesey as the residents of the events and an emphasis on working with new talent. In 6 years Matt and Jamesey have played at various venues in London including Cargo, Prince of Wales, Bedroom Bar and currently you can hear the boys spinning monthly at Omeara in London Bridge as part of the House 4 Soul brand.
Jamesey
Jamesey has professionally be playing deep and soulful house for more than twenty years, Jamesey got on the decks at the age of 14. Music and DJ’s run in the family citing his first musical influences from his mother and uncles who were all DJ’s on the radio in the early eighties. He says it was always a great vibe listening to his mother in the mornings playing everything from Soul to rare groove and Jazz classics.
Real success didn’t take long to beckon, getting his break on Housefm.net in 2004. As a resident at the Ditch bar (Shoreditch) with Euphoric House Collective (Randy J & Floyd Patterson), opportunity knocked as Jamesey’s talents saw him showcasing at most of the prolific nights in the underground house scene in London. Bookings saw him play at BBE Records’ parties, Soulogic and Kinki Malinki. Making a name for himself took him worldwide performing sets in Sardinia, Barcelona, New York, Paris , Russia, Georgia and Dubai.
As mentioned above it was in 2008 that Jamesey meet Matt through mutual friends and they started to work and dj together at Papa Records events. Then when Matt went onto start Tribe Records he invited Jamesey to be a resident at their events in London and Paris. More recently Jamesey has played in Miami at the Winter Music Conference in 2013, he’s also a regular visitor to NYC where he has played at Bang The Drum in New Jersey. He also makes regular visits to Japan to play at various clubs across the country with his good friend DJ Uchikawa in Japan.
His unique sets set him apart from the other djs in London so a Makin’ Moves party is the only place to catch him spin!
