When did you begin DJ'ing and what made you start?
Well, I started taping the Top 40 with my brother when I was 4 years old and whilst doing so we used our fingers to rewind the tape and remove the talking, so those were effectively our first mixtapes!
Always had a love for buying vinyl from that age and was brought up to enjoy music across the spectrum and all genres ranging from classical music to classic House lol!
Started playing rave and jungle at local events as a teenager then got invited to join Star 96.7 FM, a community radio station in Derby, whilst studying for my degree in Music Technology. Had the pleasure of serving up Jungle, Bashment, R&B and Lovers Rock each and every Sunday from 6-8pm!
What would you say influenced you towards House music?
I would say the Electro breakdance sounds from the mid 1980's, along with the rave scene from the late 80's started my love for House music!
Of the many genres of House, which are your favourite?
I genuinely can't give an honest, straightforward answer to that one! I love almost all of the sub-genres, anything that is produced well deserves the praise! I think my favourite at any given moment is what the crowd consider to be their favourite, I aim to please hahaha! x
Which artists, producers and tracks stand out for you, both now and from the past?
Again, there is so much good quality music to enjoy it is difficult to narrow it down.... some artists that do spring to mind though are Black Coffee, who widened the reach of the Afro sounds. Currently artists incuding Yooks, Wez Whynt, Sean McCabe and Groove Assassin are consistently doing the damage and a backintheday track that stands out is Break 4 Love from the legendary Raze.
Name some highlights or a profound moment in your time as a DJ
It was absolutely splendid to join House FM in 2010 and joining the Groove Odyssey as things progessed. The first Groove Odyssey event I played at was in Proud2, a splendid club that was part of The 02 in London. My first big gig in London and oh my gosh, what an honourable venue for it to be! Plus, every time Eastenders comes on TV I can point at the 02 on the intro map and say, hey, guess what, I played there lol!

The day the US house sound dropped, I knew this is where I wanted to be. The love of the riff, the driving bass lines and the drums and breaks, wow this was the moment I felt the euphoria of music. |
